Have you ever tried to picture the ideal guide? I've always preferred someone friendly, down to earth, well-spoken, and knowledgeable. Dan McCoig of Dan Traveling, is all that, plus he tops it off by throwing in a soft, familiar (for me at least) southern accent. Every week, Dan shows you around Appalachia through his videos and photos of his trips around Virginia, North & South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
I really like the way Dan does local travel. He's taking every free moment he's got, and scouring the area around him for great local food, historical tidbits, unique architecture, and local culture. I'll hazard a guess that if you've never considered visiting the Blue Ridge Mountains before, you'll give it a serious thought after watching some of Dan's videos. Just make sure you pronounce it correctly, or else Dan'll throw an Apple-At-Cha.
