Travel Like A Human Being: Stop Worrying

Anxious Girl On Ride

I'll be the first to admit that when I travel I tend to get a little bit anxious. My triggers are typically planes or trains, or anything else that has a schedule. But you know what, it doesn't really matter if you miss that train...another will come.

When you worry, you shut yourself off from the world. This is the exact opposite of what you ought to be doing when you're traveling. Remember, when something "goes wrong" it's just a small deviation from your plans, and it's the deviations that are the most memorable.
My favorite memory from my last trip to the UK was when the train lines were shut down and we were herded off onto buses, without much explanation. My worries quickly waned as I realized I was getting a free tour of the Scottish countryside that I never would have seen from the train. The close quarters also allowed me to eavesdrop on a rowdy Scottish bachelor party, who were certainly speaking English, but I barely understood a word.
So, relax and enjoy the next time you get to sit around and wait for the next train. People watch, get some good local food and soak it all in.
