Although I'm sure you don't need science to tell you, being in the city can be tiring. With all of the distractions, the lights, noise, and crowded streets, our brains get fatigued quickly when exposed to urban environments, even for short amounts of time. So what's the urban traveler to do?
Unless you're in a complete concrete jungle, you should be able to find a park or two in your daily explorations. Some cities, like London and Berlin, have quite a few parks for you to stop and give your brain and body a chance to decompress. Others may require a bit of planning to locate greenery. Either way, make sure you take some time to feel the grass between your toes: plan a picnic, some playtime (frisbee, anyone?), or just bring along a book to read. Whenever you feel yourself getting grumpy, tired, or overwhelmed, head towards your spot of choice and set up camp. After a bit of downtime, I bet you'll find yourself feeling rested, relaxed, and ready to take on the world.
For the longer-term travelers, be open to taking some time to venture into the countryside in between your urban visits. In addition to the change of scenery, it's a great chance to get to see what else a country has to offer. It's not like the trees are going to come to you!
