Some people just know how to travel, but rarely does that person have their own television show. I've always liked Anthony Bourdain, but never really had bothered to tune in and see what he had to say about the art of travel. What little I knew about him I liked... he was the chef at Les Halles forever, wrote some books, became television food personality, and shared my distaste for the Food Network. (I think that rant is one of the top five great things to come out of blogging.) He also holds the title of the only celebrity I've ever seen on the streets of New York....and now my travel idol.
Recently a friend suggested that we catch some of Bourdain's show No Reservations on the Travel Channel. Best suggestion ever. This show is good, no it's great. If you're in need of some travel inspiration, entertainment, and some of the best snark you've heard in a long time...go out and rent or download (iTunes has all four seasons) this show.
But, it's not all just pure entertainment and TV fluff, the guy really gets to the heart of the love of travel. It's about the experience. It's about smelling the smells, tasting the culture, and knowing the people. Get rid of preconceived notions and just experience the world. The clip above is a great example of how he sums it all up. Fast forward to about 2 minutes in if you're not interested in watching the craft of making french bread, but who doesn't love bread?
