Travel Chatter: What's Hot On The Net (November 10, 2009)

by austin on
The blogosphere is full of travel inspiration and ideas... here's our favorite finds from the past week.

Brave New Traveler Are Americans Afraid Of Overseas Travel
The question asked in this article, and a lot of the answers aren't new either, but the question keeps being asked. But what about asking the same thing about people in other countries? I'd like to see a direct comparison/study of people in other countries. Or, I'd like to see a study of how many people in other countries leave their continent. An American can travel an exceptionally long way before they leave their country. Why doesn't interstate travel count in people's mind as travel? Thoughts?

Forks and Jets Ode To Anise
Local liquor, what's not to love? If you've ever been to the Mediterranean or the Balkans, you might have run across Ouzo, or Rakia, or Mastika. Well, it's all the same thing, and Forks and Jets gives you a full-flavored introduction to the world of fermented anise.

Nerds Eye View Two Hawaiis
For every ying, there is a yang. Even in Hawaii. With all the glitz, supposed glamor, and beauty of Hawaii, there's the poorer, downright depressing part to go along with it. Pam provides a tiny peek into the lesser known side, to contrast against the traditional views.

Globespotters Hiking Hong Kong? Tis the season.
I'll admit, hiking in the jungle wouldn't even come to mind if I were thinking of visiting Hong Kong (but not for lack of desire). Right now is the best time to visit and hike around some of Hong Kong's jungle preserves/parks and see a different side of this urban destination.
