After being confined to downtown Austin for a few days of SXSW, we had to escape. We'd both been craving some tacos, but not just any tacos, Torchy's was what we craved. Unfortunately for us, the closest place to get them is about a mile south of the convention center. What did we decide to do? Ride the bus, get in a cab, or something else convenient? Never, not us. We walked.
In the sun and heat, we stubbornly soldiered on down 1st Street, past the Texas School for the Deaf, finally stumbling into a trailer park. This was not some sad, crumbling monument to the mobile home, but instead a thriving, comfortable home to tasty eats.
Making our way past a spectacularly shiny Airstream, we sauntered up to the Torchy's trailer and forever changed the way that we see (and taste) tacos. If tacos aren't your cup of tea, there's also a burger joint, Shuggies, that has chocolate shakes that compliment tacos quite nicely. I couldn't recommend the combination more.
