Offbeat Accommodations: Wigwam Motel
The highlight of any American roadtrip is a glitzy, gimmicky roadside attraction. Bright lights, oversized dinosaurs, and miles of billboards telling you to stop. So, what better place to spend the night on a trip down Route 66 than at the historic Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, Arizona?
Wigwam motels started popping up alongside highways in the 1930s. Some of these novelty hotels still survive and are welcoming weary travelers with their very own wigwam for the night.
For around $50 a night you can stay in a relic of America's quirky past. But be sure to jot down their number before you leave, because it's the only way to make a reservation. You might want to plan ahead, because these teepees need at least two weeks notice.
