Back to the Beach: Sri Lanka
Formerly known as Ceylon, Sri Lanka is well known for producing some of the best tea in the world. Unbeknownst to many travelers, it also has some of the best beaches.
On the Sand: For maxing and relaxing, there are plenty of places to choose from. Kalapitya, Mirissa, and Tangalle are perfect for sun lovers. Snorkelers can hit the coral reefs off of Hikkaduwa and Unawatuna. Surfers have even more options and can find almost year-round love for Sri Lankan beaches: the east coast is the place to be April through September, while the west is best for the rest of the year.
When the Sun Goes Down: If you're a fan of spicy food, then eating in Sri Lanka should be a treat. Curries, accompanied by fiery sambols, really show off the local chilis. If spice doesn't get you going, then why not spend the evening sipping tea? After all, it doesn't get any fresher...
Remember, if all else fails, just hit up a pub.
When it Rains: If you're looking to get back to nature, there's no shortage of options. You could spend some time with some of the island's orphaned elephants at the Pinnewela Elephant Orphanage and catch them frolicking in the river. Or, you could explore the Sinharaja rain forest and get a glimpse of some of the wildlife. If culture is more of your thing, then you can explore Buddhist stupas and ruins, mixed with modern day surroundings in Anuradhapura.
