The Cyclades are a grouping of Greek Isles, located southwest of Athens and north of Crete. Gifted with ancient history and gorgeous climate, these islands have enough to hook almost anyone.

On the Sand: Ever since the first pirate planted his peg leg in the sand, people of all sorts have been enjoying the fine, sandy beaches of the Cyclades. No matter what type of beach experience you're looking for, you'll likely be able to find it. From the party beaches of Ios to more serene locales like Sifnos, Serifos, Andros, and the Little Cyclades islands, you can make yourself at home. Heck, you can even sun your buns on the black sand beaches of Santorini.

When the Sun Goes Down: You'll find no shortage of nightlight on Ios and Mykanos, both notorious for their bad behavior. For a tamer experience, the smaller islands offer quiet respite and good local eats. Guardian reporter, Rachel Howard, tells tales of wild fennel fritters and ouzo-fueled backgammon games on the island of Tinos.

When it Rains: If the weather isn't cooperating, make lemonade out of lemons and venture to see what's left of the Sanctuary of Apollo on Delos. Or charter a sea kayak off the coast of Milos for a chance to see the islands from a different perspective.
