Back to the Beach: Sardinia
Sardinia (or Sardegna in Italian) is a land of rugged beauty and a melting pot of culture. Located off the coast of Italy, it's home to 1.7 million Sardinians (whose ancestry is varied and ancient), over 9,000 nuraghe (conical towers dating from 1000 BC), and a whole lotta white sand. Whether you're an outdoorsman or prefer a tropical drink, the island of Sardinia offers a plethora of sandy locales. Today we're daydreaming of Italia....Sardegna-style.
On the Sand:
Sardinia offers a variety of beach activities, from windsurfing on the northern shore, scuba diving off Tavolara Island, and the simple act of soaking up the sweet, sweet Mediterranean sun.
When the Sun Goes Down:
Want to camp on the beach? Go for it, Camping San Teodoro offers camping accommodations as well as bungalows. Want to be pampered? The Sardinians have got just the thing for you: check out this swanky resort in the town of Cagliari.
When it Rains:
Head out to see the Caves of Neptune near Alghero, or hang out in one of Sardinia's inland medieval towns. If you're feeling up for a little exploration, hop on the closest "green train" and see where it takes you.
