Lately we've been hearing a lot of excuses from friends, family, and acquaintances for why they don't travel. "I don't have enough vacation time," "it costs too much," or "it's too difficult."
But before we could protest, we realized that we hadn't been much better, as of late, and hadn't ventured that far from "home" in the past two years. But our home now is the Pacific Northwest and we're two lifelong east coasters, who have felt like we've been on an extended vacation with that little thing called "work" in between. Everything has been brand new and exciting, so it's been easy for us to make excuses for why we haven't left the country. Heck, we're only a few hours from Canada now, and that totally counts. Right?
No more, my friends, we're hitting the road in 2009.
So resolution #1, stop making excuses for why you're not traveling, but why you ARE. Mine would probably go something like this: "Oh, we had to go to Italy just to get a cone of gelato. Yeah, it's really too bad, but it was just something we HAD to do."
