Gift Guide 2009: Fred Flare Favorites

offbeat gifts

Gifts don't always have to be practical. When searching for offbeat gifts for the traveler, we went to one of our favorite offbeat stores, Fred Flare. In between the heart-shaped sunglasses (which, I sooo want) and mustache combs, we found a few travel-related gifts for that person in your life that doesn't take life too seriously.

Sure, you could spring for some noise canceling headphones, but wouldn't these UrbanEars classic headphones be more fun? ($68)

Every traveler needs a place to store stuff, this airmail pouch fits the bill. ($9)

If you know someone heading out for a long trip or one that likes to keep their calendar booked years in advanced, this 5 year diary will help them keep their travel schedule straight. ($24.95)

The Italophile in your life might already have enough stovetop mokas to serve a small army, but I bet they don't have this porcelain coffee carafe. ($9.99) (Sadly, no longer available.)

I'm always losing things in hotel rooms. This doorganizer might keep you from spending your vacation searching for your room key. ($18) (Sadly, no longer available.)

For an architecture lover, pick up these walking tours for the Big Apple. City Walks Architecture, New York comes complete with maps and history for New York's great buildings on compact and convenient cards. ($18.95) (Sadly, no longer available.)

While it may lack the sheer physical stature of the real thing, this miniature, cheese grating version of the Eiffel Tower can help you relive, or pine for, a trip to Paris. ($20) (It's no longer available, but you CAN stamp the Eiffel Tower on your french toast.
