Texas. Known for its wide open spaces, larger-than-life nature, and rugged independence, is a place unlike any other. Austin, its capital, stands out from the rest of the state as a bastion for people who stood out from the crowd, the weird ones. Why should you visit this oddball capital? It's home to an overabundance of great food, live music, great parks, and a vibrant culture that might just make you want to stay. With all these reasons to visit, there's no shortage of people coming to visit. But finding an affordable hotel in Austin is possible, just as long as you don't try to visit during South by Southwest.

An old school motel with old school charm, the Austin Motel takes you a step back in time to another era of travel. With rooms ranging from $80-170 per night, there's something for every budget.

The boutique hotel, Hotel San Jose, is a bit of a splurge, but you can stay within your budget if you choose a room without a bathroom. At around $100 a night, you get to stay in this chic hotel for a fraction of the cost. And even if you can't get a room, stop by for a drink in the outdoor courtyard or grab a snack at Jo's Coffee

If you're looking for no frills, but good location, then the Holiday Inn Town Lake might fit the bill. Yelpers report great deals to be found on Priceline in this centrally located hotel chain.

Bed and Breakfasts often come with a slightly higher pricetag, but many in Austin sit around the $125 mark. Shop wisely and choose one with a decent breakfast selection, like the Austin Folk House, and you can stay in a Texan manor and score a great meal, for free.
