Ask an Italian: Weekend Activities

by Francesco on 06/25/2008
Every week, Francesco Serra, our good friend and expert on all things Italian, gives us perspective on Italian culture. Residing in the northern city of Padova, but being a fiercely proud native Calabrian, he brings a unique perspective on all things Italian.

Our question today for Francesco....What do you do for fun on the weekends? What do you do on a typical Friday night?

Have a question about Italy? Send Francesco an e-mail and we'll have him answer your question here.

What makes the most difference, as everywhere else in the world I guess, is your age and if you've got a family. If you're a young guy like me, you usually go out on Friday night with friends to pubs or, sometimes, discos. However, I have to admit that lately, I like it better to find new solutions (for example, now that's summer, we have been going to the beach for the day and stay the night. It's definitely boring to do the same things and always go to the same places.

On Saturday, you definitely want to go to the city center and do some good shopping, relax, and buy what you couldn't during the week. Then at night, it's the same as a Friday....someone said "Cinema"? ;-) The last day, Sunday, you usually go to your parent's house, where you eat as much as you ate in the whole week, wait for the soccer matches' results, and take some good breathe of fresh air, knowing that, with the beginning of the new week, you will have to get rid of all you ate on Sunday... Thanks Mamma!

If you've got family... well, I have no real answer, but I don't think you will do nothing else than looking after your children and go to the zoo with them ;-)

What do you do on a typical weekend?

No one knows a place better than a local, so we're asking our circle of friends to be our experts and answer our questions. If you'd like to become our resident expert on a city or country, drop us an e-mail.
