Every week, Francesco Serra, our good friend and expert on all things Italian, gives us perspective on Italian culture. Residing in the northern city of Padova, but being a fiercely proud native Calabrian, he brings a unique perspective on all things Italian.
Our question today for Francesco....What do you typically eat for breakfast? Do you ever eat breakfast outside of the home? What's your favorite way to have coffee?
Here in Italy we have the classic Mediterranean diet. When you go visit an Italian friend, you will enjoy a good cup of warm milk with cookies, marmalade, and/or coffee (only the Italian kind!) That's how we do breakfast at home. But, you can't always do like your mother wants, so more often we have to run (late) to work, and instead, make a fast pit stop at a bar or cafè, just to have a coffee. That's modern times. ;-)
My own favorite way to have coffee is to make it with my moka (the Bialetti "Brikka") which makes a nice foam. I got spoiled!

I have one of those! My Italian friend gave it to me. Love it to death, though I have been drinking tea more than coffee lately.
