A Walk Along the Brenta

When we visit Italy, we often stay with friends in the city of Padova, which is just a short 30 minute train ride from Venice. Two years ago, these friends decided to move out on their own and we found ourselves in the tiny town of Saletto di Vigodarzare, smack in the middle of the countryside. I'll admit the first time I saw their address on a map, I started to worry and quickly began the arduous task of familiarizing myself with the workings of Padova's public transit. With some patience and timing, it's just a short walk and thirty minute bus ride into the city. However, what the location lacks in convenience, it makes up for in beauty. You walk out your door straight into the countryside and in five minutes, you're on a path along the Brenta river.

One day, instead of venturing into town in the heat, we decided instead to wander along this path. Busy with bicyclists and fitness buffs on the weekend, we had the entire place to ourselves. Our own little Italian countryside, complete with an abandoned Villa (La Certosa di Vigodarzere) to explore. Check out our walking tour below.
